Coordinator hired for Quinte West doctor recruitment

A five generation Quinte West resident will be helping her community improve its health care.

Paula Mason has been hired as the co-ordinator of the city’s new physician recruitment and retention program focused on bringing new doctors to Quinte West and ensuring the ones there will stay.

The City of Quinte West and the Trenton Memorial Hospital Foundation partnered to the program last fall.
Mayor Jim Harrison said getting a co-ordinator on board is a great step forward for the effort.

“Hiring a Coordinator is a positive step in moving forward the great work we are doing with the Trenton Memorial Hospital Foundation and Quinte West Physician Recruitment Committee to achieve the best results in attracting and keeping Doctors in our community,” he said.

TMH Foundation executive director Wendy Warner, who has responsibility for managing the program, said Mason will be a great addition to the team,

“She has the right combination of interpersonal skills, perseverance, research, administration and special events,” Warner said. “Paula comes to us from the VON where she was involved in fundraising, another asset she brings to our team.”

In addition to attending career days at various medical schools, Mason will also be working with our local physicians to co-ordinate student, locum and resident tours, training opportunities and education sessions.

“We have only begun to scratch the surface of our potential to recruit new physicians to our area,” Warner said.
